Series 1·Chapter 11·Full Text

Author:

Confucius said: "What does "Yi" mean? "Yi" establishes things and accomplishes tasks, and defies the rules of the world. That's all."
Therefore, the sage uses his ambition to understand the world, determines the world's affairs, and eliminates the world's doubts.
That is why the virtues of weed are round and divine, the virtues of hexagrams can only be understood, and the meanings of the six lines are easy to pay tribute to. The sage uses this to cleanse his heart and hide in secrets. He shares the good and bad times with the people. God comes with knowledge and hides the way with knowledge. Who among them can do this! In ancient times, those who were wise and knowledgeable were those who were powerful but did not kill.
This is because the way of heaven is understood and observed by the people, and the gods are used by the people before they are created. The sage fasts with this and uses the gods to enlighten his husband.
Therefore, the whole household is called Kun, the opening of households is called Qian, the closing and opening of households is called change, the endless exchanges are called communication, the sight is called image, the shape is called tool, the control and use is called law, the use of exit and entry is called god.
That’s why there is Tai Chi in the Book of Changes, which creates two rituals. Two rituals give rise to four phenomena. The Four Symbols produce Bagua. The Eight Diagrams determine good and bad luck, and good and bad fortune bring about great causes.
Therefore, there is no Dharma image greater than heaven and earth; there is no flexibility greater than the four seasons; there is no county image that shows brightness, nothing greater than the sun and moon; there is nothing nobler than wealth; to prepare things for use, to set up utensils to benefit the world, there is nothing greater than the sage who explores treasures and hides, and hooks are as deep and far-reaching as possible to determine the good and bad of the world.
Therefore, the gods are born, and the saints follow them; the heaven and earth change, and the saints imitate them; the sky hangs like an image to see good and bad luck, and the saints image it; the river produces pictures, and the Luo produces books, and the saints follow them.
There are four images in "Yi", so they are shown. The words are related, so it is reported; it is judged to be good or bad, so it is judged.
