"Cheng Gai", whose courtesy name was Zhengbo, was from Meishan (now part of Sichuan). Su Shi is the grandson of Cheng Zhicai (also known as Zhengfu). In the thirteenth year of Chunxi (1186), he visited Lin'an. Lu You wrote a postscript for the valley where he had hidden it, and soon returned to Shu. He wrote fifty articles about emperors, kings and ministers discussing the pros and cons of current affairs. In the third year of Shaoxi's reign (1192), when he was already fifty years old, Yang Wanli recommended him to be a virtuous and upright scholar. In the fifth year of Shaoxi (1194), Wang Cheng, a native of the country, prefaced his poems by saying, "Cheng Zhengbo is famous for his poems, which are known to the people in the countryside. I traveled to the capital for more than a year and met several court officials, and they often praised Zhengbo's beautiful poems." Feng Xu's "Hao'an Theory of Ci": "Cheng Zhengbo's sad and beautiful poems are similar to the family style of "Beautiful Good Ci" recorded by Cao Chuang." There is a volume of "Shuzhou Ci" (the first work is "Shuzhou Ya Ci").
